6 soldiers killed as armed militia raid South Sudan’s army base in Warrap sate

6 soldiers were killed in South Sudan’s army base in Akur area located at the border between Warrap state and Abyei Administrative Area.

Captain Moses Deng, spokesperson of infantry division of South Sudan People’s Defense Force’s in Wunyiik confirmed to Abyei FM on Tuesday.

“Yesterday an enemy attacked Akur area in Nyiel. They killed 6 from people’s army but they were repulsed. And our morale, we South Sudan’s army is high.”

Captain Deng claimed the attackers were armed militiamen from Sudan. He suggested that the intention of the assailants was to raid cattle.

The incident caused panic in Aganytok village in Abyei Administrative Area where gunshots were clearly heard.

The Security Advisor in Abyei administrative Area, Kelek Kon Lual urged people to be calm saying where the clashes took place is far from civil population in Abyei.
