Calm returns to Donguop after UNISFA deployed troops

Authorities in Abyei Administrative Area said that security situation is relatively calm in Donguop after UN mission deployed troops there.

The Abyei Area Security Advisor Kelek Kon Lual told Abyei FM on Tuesday that UNISFA troops arrived in Dungop on Sunday and that the situation was calm. Kelek urged civilians to return to their homes and resume normal activities.

Chief Lual Nyok Lual said they have evacuated women from the village, and he was not sure about their immediate homecoming. He reiterated demands for permeant presence of UN force in the village.

On Sunday morning unknown armed militants suspected to be from Misseriya tribe of Sudan attacked the village killing 11 people and injuring 7 others.
