Administration of second Polio dose starts in Abyei

A three-day second polio dose administration has started in Abyei administrative area on Wednesday.

The Head of Immunization Department in the Health Administration, Youssif Lal said the exercise targets 17800 child from 0-5 years.

Youssif said that third and fourth doses will be given in September and December this year. Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a disabling and life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus. The virus spreads from person to person and can infect a person’s spinal cord, causing paralysis. South Sudan has 56 cases of polio infection as of March 6 2021, according to World Health Organization data.
