UNISFA hands over car hijack suspects to a joint court in Amiet

Abyei Administration Security Advisor said that United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has handed over three suspects who attempted to hijack a passenger vehicle to a joint court in Amiet market on Tuesday.

“Now UNISFA has handed over three suspects to a joint court in Amiet. We got a report that suspects are in the cells there. We will continue to follow it to know how they are tried. We want to ask the joint court whether suspects will go on trial there or in another place. We heard that suspects are in Amiet. We want any person who commits a crime to be convicted.”

The suspects were arrested on Sunday when a passenger vehicle was stopped, passengers robbed of their money, phones and other valuable things by eight armed men suspected to be from Misseriya tribe in Sudan near Nyang waterpoint just 1 km away from Amie market.

In March, UNISFA released four suspects accused of killing a driver and wounding others.

Killing, robbery and vehicle hijack are common in Abyei box.
