Forty members of  joint community committees in Amiet in Abyei Administrative Area were trained on sexual gender-based violence, women, and child rights on Sunday.

These groups include joint community peace committee, joint court, health committee, community protection committee, women committee, and chamber of commerce in addition to Nuer and Chollo chiefs.

The workshop was attended by 10 females representing community protection committee, business community and women committee.

Representatives of Ngok Dinka and Misseriya have both appreciated the training. They said it will help in the wellbeing of vulnerable groups and in addressing sexual gender-based violence before community protection committee and joint court.

There has been concern from peace committee about rising cases of sexual gender-based violence in the market that was founded in 2016.

Cases of rape and sexual harassment have been reported among both adult and minor females. But the way these cases are tried at traditional court is always criticized by survivors and their relatives.

They called on UNISFA and UN agencies to continue supporting them through training and provision of needs.

The workshop is part of a16-day campaign to sensitize communities to end gender-based violence against women and girls.
