A mentally ill man aged 35 years old burnt two churches in Mijak and Alal counties of Abyei administrative area on Tuesday. These are Catholic and Kush churches in Mijak and Awolnhom villages respectively.
A mother who is a member of Kush Church told Abyei FM on Wednesday that she was surprised by the blaze when everybody was at food distribution site.
Caretaker commissioner of Mijak county said the suspect had psychological problems and that he is in contact with his family to confine and rehabilitate him.
Hon. Chol Adhol said they were taking measures to prevent further burning of places of worship in the county.
Kush Church priest expressed his sorrow for the incident and blaming it on lack of faith.
Isaiah Manhom said they have lost building material and would urge authorities to protect churches.
