Abyei people have hailed the initiative by the Bongo clan to give pieces of land to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to build their houses.
They called for more initiatives of housing for the IDPs, in Abyei Town suburbs.
The pleading was made on the “Umbrella Program” on Monday 22nd May 2023. The program was discussing an initiative to allocate 300 plots of 25 m by 30 m east of Abyei town to each displaced family in Abyei Area and people from other communities residing in the Area.
Lual Miyen Lual from Abyei Town said it is a good step to support change in the community.
“Our clan of Alei who has lands adjacent to the town has the same idea that I hope be materialized soon” he said.
While Chol Achueng from Rumamer appreciated the move he asked the Ngok not to abandon Agok.
“Let us balance between having houses in Abyei Town and Agok. I hope this plan shouldn’t discourage people from maintaining their houses in Agok too,” he stressed.
Land authorities in Abyei Town said works to clear the one square kilometer is about to finish and each eligible family will get its plot very soon.
