A member of the High-level Committee for the Reception of people fleeing war in Sudan said that South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) has agreed to fly Abyei returnees stranded in Renk to Agok airstrip in Abyei Administrative Area.
The member spoke to Abyei FM from Juba on the phone on Wednesday morning 24th May 2023.
Hon. Nyankuac Ngor Chol said they have registered more than six hundred people in Renk of whom more than 180 preferred to be transported to Juba.
She said they have designated eight flights that will begin probably on Thursday 25th May 2023.
It is worth mentioning that hundreds of Abyei families are caught up in Khartoum and those who made it to Renk are unable to continue their journeys to final destinations due to financial constraints.
According to news agencies, more than a million people have fled the Sudanese capital, Khartoum since fighting erupted between military factions of the Sudan sovereign council.
