The Youth Union in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) revealed the postponement of the intercommunal peace conference between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya Al Ajaira youth which was expected to start at the end of last week.
This came in a statement by the chairman of the Youth Union to Abyei FM on Monday 22nd April 2024.
Mr. Deng Aguer Deng confirmed postponement of the conference, which is expected to be held in the village of Dokra in Alal County to discuss peace issues, stating that the reason for the postponement was the delay between the two sides in submitting a list of participants on time because of Misseriya youth were busy with Eid Al Fitr, in addition to the recent fire incident at Amiet Market.
Mr. Aguer expected the conference to start early next May if the two sides hand over the list of participants during this month.
About 100 young men and women from the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya Al Ajaira will participate in the conference to promote intercommunal peace and peaceful coexistence, with support from the International Organization for Migration.
