The Chief Administrator of Abyei Special Administrative Area, H.E Dr. Chol Deng Alak, said that his government handed over to the security delegation visiting Abyei region led by the Chief of Defense Forces demands of the community regarding the presence of the army in Agok during a joint meeting between the government and the delegation on Monday.
This came during a speech of the Chief Administrator at a funeral service of the late Hon. Ayom Matet Ayom, Deputy Mayor of Abyei Municipality, on Tuesday, 7th May 2024.
Dr. Alak explained that the meeting witnessed presentation of views by Ngok community to the delegation about Ngok-Twic conflict adding that he delivered to the delegation the demands of Ngok community regarding the presence of the army in Agok. He revealed that the committee will meet in an expanded meeting with various groups stakeholders in community including civil society and the civil administration, on Wednesday in the Town of Abyei.
A high-level security delegation composed of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces Chief of Defense Forces Lieutenant General Santino Deng Wol, Inspector General of Police Gen. Atem Marol Biar, the Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service Lt. General Akol Koor Kuc, and senior military officers from the army command, arrived in Agok last Monday to check on the situation.
It is worth noting that Abyei civil society recently organised peaceful marches, demanding the army’s withdrawal from Agok area, and vacation of government institutions, schools, and hospitals to allow the citizens to return to their homes.
