Ngok Dinka’s paramount chief has reiterated traditional authority readiness to sit with their counterparts in Twic County to restore peace in the two areas.
Chief Bulabek Deng Kuol made these remarks during his speech after prayers for peace organized by the council of churches on Saturday 13th of April and broadcast by the Umbrella program on Friday 19th of April.
The council of churches in Abyei has called on the government, and partners to restore peace and security in Abyei and neighboring areas.
“The community in Abyei needs peace for stability. I urge all community sectors to cooperate with the church and the government to achieve peace and development,” said the bishop of Pentecostal Church, Noon Machel.
The head of civil society organizations in Abyei, Arop Ajuong Miyar called on the church to play a greater role for peace and reconciliation.
“The biggest challenge is a lack of strong mediator between the two communities” Arop noted.
On her part, the government representative Hon. Abyongweng Majith head of the Department of Local Government and Rule of Law said that achieving internal and external peace with neighboring communities is the priority of her government.
“Peace is a process that requires cooperation and unity between community sectors,” she stressed.
The prayers were attended by different church denominations, traditional authorities, and civil society organizations.
