Local Authorities in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) confirmed that 13 Misseriya herders and suspected armed men from Twic County of Warrap State were killed during a cattle raid in Rumamer County, on Friday 4th May, 2024.
Head of the Department of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports and the Spokesperson of Abyei Area government Hon. Bulis Koch Aguar, said that the attack was carried out by gunmen from Twic County in conjunction with Gai Machiek militias stationed in the Ajak Kuac area. Hon. Aguar stated that the attack resulted in the killing of 5 Misseriya herdsmen and 8 attackers, in addition to the raiding of 150 cattle of Misseriya.
The official spokesperson pointed out that a number of cows were recovered from the attackers, called on the youth in Twic County to respect the orders of the President of the Republic to stop the violence between Ngok and Twic communities. He added that the injured, whose number was not specified are receiving treatment at MSF Hospital in Abyei Town.
For his part, Warrap state minister for information, Mr. William Wol Mayom in a statement to Abyei FM on Monday, denied the accusations directed against gunmen coming from his state of involvement behind the attack, reiterating the Warrap government’s commitment to the orders of the President of the Republic.
